Juried Show "That Which Sustains Us"
“That Which Sustains Us” juried show will feature art on the theme of what is important in our lives that sustains us which could vary from physical, social, natural world, animals, and spiritual themes.
The show will be held for one month with an opening reception for the featured artists on October 18th from 4:00pm to 7:30pm with the presentation of the People’s Choice Award at 7:00pm.
Todd Bonita will be judging the event. Mr. Bonita is an artist and art teacher who has galleries in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Wells, Maine.

Self-Portrait Workshop
In this self-portrait class, you’ll embark on a creative journey to discover the art of capturing your own likeness, on paper or canvas. Through guided exercises, you’ll learn to observe yourself with fresh eyes, explore your unique features, and express your personality through line, shape, and shading. We’ll cover fundamental techniques, such as proportion, anatomy, and composition, while encouraging a bit of creative freedom to make each portrait uniquely yours. By the end of the class, you will not only have a completed self-portrait, but also a deeper understanding of yourself as both a subject and an artist. Artistically Inclined: the Value of Partnership in Art
Join artist Peter Yesis and author Kim Yesis for a combined artist-author talk on November 1st, First Friday, starting at 5:30pm. Peter left his successful career as an engineer to take a sharp pivot to becoming a fine artist, and Kim witnessed and documented that journey in a very enjoyable read, “Side by Side: Tales from Behind the Canvas.” Peter was selected to be the Allagash Wilderness Waterway’s 2023 Artist in Residence and Kim was inspired to write her most recent book, “Artist in the Allagash.” Come hear about this unique partnership from Kim and Peter live in the gallery to kick off our First Friday event which runs 5-8pm. Kim will have copies of her books available for purchase. All are invited! Refreshments will be available.
Delving into Facial Features Workshop
Ready to take your portrait skills to the next level? In “Portrait 2: Delving into Facial Features” we’ll explore the finer details of the face—eyes, nose, mouth, and ears—like never before. Building on the foundation from Portrait 1, this workshop focuses on breaking down each feature into simple shapes and understanding the play of light and shadow. You’ll start with a detailed, step-by-step demonstration and then move on to hands-on practice where you’ll get to sharpen your skills by working from a live model. Join us as we unlock the secrets to drawing lifelike facial features with confidence and clarity. Victoria Zurkan will instruct you. $100 for 4-hour workshop. Art History: A Lesson in Drawing Class with CT Rasmussen
This class is suited for the beginner to the advanced student. CT Rasmussen will instruct a hybrid approach to Art History & Drawing. students will learn about 25 Masters of the 20th Century, c. 1900-1950, where they will discover new methods in drawing. CT will encourage an open dialogue amongst the participants, and communication through drawing. Each class is self-contained. Each of the first 5 classes will cover 5 innovative artists of the 20th century and the 6th class will be the student artist’s choice. The first class will feature Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Cezanne, Henri Rousseau, Pablo Picasso, and Joan Miro. $225 for the series of 6 classes or $45 per class. Beginner Oil Painting Class Series
A series of 5 beginner oil painting classes will begin Tuesday, October 15, 1:00-4:00pm or 5:30-8:30pm taught by artist Linda Sproehnle. This class is for the true beginner—no prior painting experience is needed. All supplies are provided. Cost is $200. You may register under Classes or by contacting the gallery.
Still Life Workshop with Sandra Leinonen Dunn
Learn to paint a successful still life in oils—for beginner and intermediate painters! Saturday 9:30am-4:00pm. Lunch is on your own. This class sold out in the spring. Sandra is an experienced instructor and a popular artist. Cost is $150. Please register at Workshops or by contacting the gallery. A recommended supply list will be provided to all registrants. Canvases are available for purchase at the gallery.
First Friday Art Walk with Will Kefauver
Will Kefauver is our featured artist for October! Will is well-known for his oil paintings of waves, boats, and local scenes. He will be present for the First Friday Art Walk from 5-8pm on October 4th to greet visitors and to discuss his work. Please join us for wine, cheese, and other refreshments!
Acrylic Painting Class Begins

Waterfront Golden Hour Plein Air Event with Dennis Poirier
Student Artists will meet at the gallery by 3:45pm and head to the waterfront for a 3 hour workshop. Please pre-register in the Classes Section. All students who pre-register will receive a list of recommended supplies. Dennis is an experienced plain air artist who will offer instruction, guidance, and encouragement! Cost of the workshop is $85. The workshop will be canceled in the event of rain. This is the last workshop of the summer season.

Claudette Gamache for First Friday in July; Talk by the artist at 5pm
Claudette Gamache, Eminent Pastelist and oil painter, will be our featured artist for the month of July at the Roux & Cyr International Fine Art Gallery in Portland, Maine. She has been working on a new series of art focusing on Light: A Creative Journey including symbolism, spirituality, nature, and healing well-being. She is a retired RN and Registered Art Therapist. She was president of the Pastel Society of Maine for four years and has taught workshops in New England, France, Hawaii, California, and she also presented in China with the Art Therapy Delegation. She has painted with pastels for over 30 years. Her concentration is on Art and Medicine incorporating Light and Nature.
Claudette’s new show is titled Art as Medicine: Light, Opposites, Integration. Since the fall of 2023 she has focused on capturing images of light upon darkness, beginning with candlelight and expanding into light in sky, water, and space. Her paintings evoke feelings of connection to the universe, our journey within it, and the healing power of art.
Claudette will be at our Creative Portland’s First Friday Art Walk and plans to give a talk about how she was inspired to create this dramatic series with the influence of personal and world events. The First Friday Art Walk event is on July 5th from 5-8pm. Wine, cheese, and other refreshments are served and all are welcome to come meet this influential artist. Claudette will begin her talk about the inspiration for this creative journey beginning at 5pm.
Plein Air Workshop on Portland Waterfront with Dennis Poirier at Golden Hour
If you have ever wanted to paint en plein air on the Portland waterfront, Dennis Poirier is offering a chance to paint with him on Saturday, June 29th from 4-7pm. Students will gather at the gallery and can car pool to the waterfront. Dennis is an experienced plein air artist and he will provide guidance on composition, choice of color and technique. Dennis has a loose and vibrant style. He did a workshop last November which was well-received as he provided excellent individual instruction and guidance.
Judith Schuppien First Friday Artist for June
Judith Schuppien, a Maine artist, will be our featured artist for the month of June. She paints local scenes in oil with dramatic and bold color and shape. She will be on hand to talk with patrons during our monthly event. She has a collection of a dozen new paintings and some that are in her alcove here in the gallery. Join us for wine, cheese and other refreshments and come to meet the artist!
