Palette Knife Workshop--Expressive Landscapes with Local Artist Colin McGuire

  • Roux and Cyr 48 Free Street Portland, ME, 04101 United States (map)

Colin McGuire offers this workshop for artists of all levels. Support will be provided for each student’s artistic goals. This one-day, 3-hour workshop will provide an introduction to the practices of palette knife painting explored by Colin to achieve vibrant, emotive, and rich landscape imagery. Class will begin with a demonstration and discussion of the process, followed by each student beginning a small painting from a reference image. Focus will be on expressive mark-making, texture, basic color theory, and paint application techniques. Techniques will be based on an impressionist approach to image making. Students will work on a tabletop easel which will be provided.

Colin McGuire is a master painter, teacher, and gallerist from Massachusetts and the head of the Art Department at the Academy at Penguin Hall in Wenham, MA. He has recently move to Maine and is excited to bring his fresh approach to the Portland art scene and share his many years of teaching experience with the art community!
