STEPHANIE BERRY

BIO

Stephanie Berry attended Portland Art School after high school. Decades later adult ed painting classes got her jump-started with oil painting. She went on to take workshops and classes with a number of painters: Janet Manyan, Debra Yoo, Colin Page, Carol Marine and Don Hatfield. She also attended a life drawing group at Bates College for many years. Exploring different styles of painting keeps Berry engaged. Her works include landscape, still life, portrait and figurative work. The things closest to home offer inspiration: gardens, changing seasons, family and favorite places. The Impressionists have had a heavy influence on her work. Since 2005 Berry have been in many juried shows at Turner Center of the Arts; Atrium Art Gallery/USM in Lewiston; Gallery 5; Boothbay Foundation for the Arts; Lyceum Gallery; The Harlow; River Arts; UMVA; and Roux & Cyr. She’s had two solo shows at Kimball Street Studio in Lewiston. Merrill Memorial Library featured her art in a solo show. Berry has works in private and corporate collections internationally. Berry enjoys living in rural Maine and can call herself a true Mainer since 1952.

“Every painting is personal in some way to the artist alone, but I hope viewers of my work will experience some sort of remembrance, thought or connection that’s uniquely theirs. I love the fluid process of creating with oils, always seeking a harmony of color, texture and space. There is a wonderful tactile joy in pushing paint around- much like the finger paints we all loved as children. If something doesn’t work I can revisit it and try again. The challenge never goes away.”
