BIO

Addy Nicole Franklin is a hometown artist from Portland, Maine! She was selected as our Spring Artist in Residence. She has been selling her art since the age of 15 and you may have seen her at the First Friday Art Walk in Portland or in Biddeford.

Addy attended the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2016 and the University of Souther Maine from 2017-2020 where she received a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Studio Art. She was the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship at USM and a Junior Art Book Award from the Maine College of Art & Design.

Addy has a background in biology with an artistic focus on the natural world and the little details in nature. Her Jellyfish Series was inspired by the patterns and shapes that can be found in nature.

“my paintings emphasize color, lighting contrast, and framing to portray the environment in a subtle way. I enjoy bending reality to fit onto my canvas.

“my line of work in biology has had an impact on me. I’ve always expericend serenity and tranquility when engaging with the world around me. to emphasize the feelings I’m attempting to convey, I employ vivid hues and abstract cropping of plants and animals.

“in a world where materialism and technology rule, I want people to be able to stop and take a breath while looking at my artwork. when you stop to take a breath, you can focus on the little things. We should always keep in mind that the natural world is right outside of your door, and you are always a part of it.”
