Harriet Libby

BIO

Harriet Libby is a prize-winning Maine artist, painting in oil on canvas in the style of realism. She is inspired to depict the many beautiful places of Maine, painting clouds, shimmering water and waves, mist and fog, and distant mountains. She loves painting depth to allow the viewer to see far away and deeply into her pieces.

She first began painting because there were scenes of her childhood in the Aroostook County potato harvest that she wished to brush onto a canvas in glossy oil paint. Soon after she took her first lessons, and painted a dozen pieces of the vast skies and wide-open fields, barrels and baskets that were the hallmark of the potato picking season; her first show sold out!

Now her work is and has been represented by galleries and art centers throughout New England and has been exhibited in juried solo shows as will as in juried group shows. Her landscapes and seascapes are in private collections across the United States.
